Frequently asked questions

What are the biggest trade shows in Japan?

Large international shows include JIMTOF (machine tools), SEMICON Japan, FOODEX JAPAN and Inter BEE. Most of the biggest are held at Tokyo Big Sight, Makuhari Messe near Tokyo, INTEX Osaka and Port Messe Nagoya. Each show page lists the latest published exhibitor and visitor figures.

Where are trade shows held in Japan?

Most national shows are held in the Kanto region at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) and Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba). The Kansai region uses INTEX Osaka, and Port Messe Nagoya serves Chubu. Our venue guides cover stations, halls and airport access.

Can foreign companies exhibit at trade shows in Japan?

Yes. Foreign companies exhibit at most major shows, and many organizers run overseas exhibitor desks or English-language application support. Each show page shows the English support level and application status, so you can see what to expect before you contact the organizer.

How much does it cost to exhibit at a trade show in Japan?

Costs depend on the show and the booth. Organizers usually quote a price per koma, a standard booth unit of about 3 m × 3 m, and shell-scheme packages cost more than raw space. We publish booth pricing only where the organizer has published it, and link to the source.

How far in advance should I book a booth?

Plan well ahead. Application windows commonly open many months before the show, and popular shows can fill. Check the application status on the show page and use the timeline planner to work back from the move-in date.

Do I need a visa to attend a trade show in Japan?

It depends on your nationality and the length of your stay. Many visitors from visa-exempt countries can attend short business trips without a visa, but rules change. Use the visa checker for a starting point and confirm with the Japanese embassy or consulate.

Are Japanese trade shows open to the public?

Many are trade-only, meaning visitors must register with business details, while some are open to the general public. Each show page lists whether registration is required, whether there is an admission fee, and any minimum age.

Is English spoken at Japanese trade shows?

Support varies. Larger international shows usually offer English signage, websites and information desks, while domestic-focused shows may have little English. Hiring a bilingual booth assistant or interpreter is common for exhibitors.

What should I bring to a Japanese trade show?

Bring plenty of business cards (meishi), ideally with Japanese on one side, along with printed brochures and your registration confirmation. Exhibitors should also confirm freight and customs arrangements early.

How accurate are the dates on this site?

We check dates against the official organizer websites and show when each page was last verified. If dates are not yet confirmed, the page is marked Unverified dates. Organizers can change dates, so always confirm with the official site before booking travel.
